A gift that celebrates life

A gift that celebrates life

Every day Mater’s Baby Footprint volunteers create memories that last a lifetime for Mater families, visiting the wards and imprinting newborn footprints onto cards for an extra special keepsake.

In 2017 our footprints teams created 4390 footprints cards for Mater families, with funds raised going back into services for Mater Mothers' Hospitals through a grant program.

This year, the money raised has contributed to the Bereavement Unit for mementoes for grieving families and has funded a research project that will look at ways to improve the experience of women from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Acknowledging 25 years of volunteer services at Mater Mothers, the Baby Footprints volunteers have gifted a unique seat in bronze and hardwood at the entrance to Mater Mothers.

Artist Simone Eisler, Florescence

“Florescence is a benevolent, alive and organic artwork that celebrates the precious gift of new life. Vine like structures coil like tendrils and flow from a stylized central flower embossed with baby footprints. Marrying science, art, and nature, references were drawn from historic architectural features of the Mater including archways and stained glass windows, the human reproductive system and local flora.”

Mater’s volunteer Concierges are often on hand to capture that first photo of your family leaving hospital with your newborn, and these can now be taken on our beautiful seat.  We’d love to see your family’s photo using the hashtag #matermothers #materbeautifulmoments.
