The caring continues for three generations

Kylie and Maurie planned to leave hospital as soon as possible once their little girl Vicki arrived, so they could get home to son Johnny, but thanks to Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane’s newest Caring Continues luxury offering, the family were able to leave in style.

Mater Moments at Emporium offers eligible private families two nights’ accommodation in a river view room at Emporium Hotel South Bank on their way home from hospital. The stay comes with all the creature comforts of a boutique hotel, including three room service meals a day for mum.

Kylie and Maurie’s son Johnny, born exactly one year and two months to the day earlier than Vicki, would be spending his first night away from his parents while they were in hospital with his baby sister.

“My family came up from Sydney to look after Johnny but I was really worried about how he would handle being away as I had never spent a night apart from him,” Kylie said.

“Instead of staying at our house my mum and stepdad also booked a room at the Emporium Hotel, so they could be close to us.”

For Kylie, it was the perfect balance between knowing Johnny was handling the transition to big brother okay (and being close by) and also having one on one time to bond with Vicki.

“It gave me the opportunity to spend alone time with Vicki and get to know her routine without being disrupted by a very energetic 14 month old. But I was also right there in the same building if he needed me,” Kylie said.

Though it turns out Kylie had nothing to worry about.

“Johnny loved spending time with his grandparents. He was also a big fan of the buffet breakfast,” Kylie said.

Another reason the family chose Mater’s Caring Continues offering was the reassurance of having a Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane nurse or midwife in the hotel 24/7.

“It was having peace of mind that helped us make the decision. Had I gone straight home from hospital, I wouldn’t have had the reassurance of having a midwife on hand,” Kylie said.

“Although we didn’t need their support too often they were really lovely and would touch base a couple of times a day and offer that little bit of extra care.”

Those first two nights at the Emporium Hotel were the perfect start for the new family of four.

“I would definitely recommend it to other families. The reassurance from the midwives but still having our family close, balanced with having our own room, was perfect for us,” Kylie said.

“Plus we got to have our first little getaway as a family!”
