Crafty creativity with Mumma Got Skills

It’s so important as a new mum to take some time for you—a chance to reconnect with yourself, be mindful, and explore your creativity. So that we can continue to support Mater Mothers who might be on bed rest in the hospital, or those who are adjusting as a new mum postnatally, we have partnered with Mumma Got Skills to provide free, online wellness activities. These workshops will be held weekly at Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane and Mater Mothers' Hospital, with a new crafty project each week. Come along and connect with other mums and mums-to-be to make something unique and fun for you and baby.

Join Carlie from Mumma Got Skills and Mater's occupational therapists online for a chat and a cute, crafty project. All materials will be delivered to your room, so you can join us online with live-streamed workshops each week. You don't need to be an artist to join in on the fun—no skills required, as you will be stepped through each project with care and templates.

Mumma Got Skills workshops

Wednesday 6 January, 10 am to 11.30 am—Paper quill pineapple
A popular little nursery addition, this paper technique involves rolling strips of paper into shapes to fill a pre-planned design, a tropical pineapple. A gorgeous statement and peaceful process. Add to a frame when complete.

Wednesday 13 January, 10 am to 11.30 am—Farmyard finger puppets
Stitch your own set of cute farmyard animal finger puppets to enjoy with your child. All designs come pre-cut so you can easily complete the set (even with your baby in your arms).

Wednesday 20 January, 10 am to 11.30 am—Hot air balloon mobile
This beautiful mobile is sure to brighten up any space. Use different coloured paper to make and create a unique piece to hang over your baby's cot or play area. You can also add pom poms and fluffy clouds to complete your masterpiece.

Wednesday 27 January, 10 am to 11.30 am—Mini dream catcher
Using a galvanised ring, we will show you how to wrap coloured yarn into a decorative pattern before adorning with extra yarn, ribbon and feathers. Sweet dreams little one!

All materials will be supplied for this online workshop, including the support of our occupational therapists.

Please email Shameera to reserve your place, at [email protected] or speak to your midwife on the ward. Places are limited, so bookings are essential.
