Catching up with the Campbell's

Catching up with the Campbell's

In 2017 Josh and Melinda welcomed their first baby, Patrick, at Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane. At that time, the new parents documented their journey in a Father’s Day article for Mater Mothers.

Josh reflected on his first six months of fatherhood and recounted a few learnings and celebrations he had already experienced—smiles, sleeping babies, babies not sleeping and development milestones. As well as the importance of a zipper verse press-stud romper.

Recently Josh and Melinda welcomed their second baby boy, Alexander, and this time around things have been a little different yet just as special thanks to Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane’s newest Caring Continues luxury offering.

Mater Moments at Emporium Hotel offers eligible private families two nights’ accommodation in a river view room at Emporium Hotel South Bank. The stay comes with all the creature comforts of a boutique hotel, including three room service meals a day for mum and the reassurance of a Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane nurse or midwife in the hotel 24/7.

Families, like Melinda and Josh, also enjoy being privately chauffeured from hospital to the hotel.

“From the moment we left Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane we felt extra special! The transfer was so divine; something as little being escorted to the car by the driver with an umbrella to protect Alexander from the sun was so thoughtful. It was pure luxury,” Melinda said.

For Melinda, choosing to stay at the Emporium Hotel on her way home from hospital was something that appealed to her family as soon as they heard about it.

“I saw the news story about Mater’s new luxury support option and I thought to myself I think we have timed this perfectly! I remember saying to Josh that it would be amazing,” Melinda recalls.

“When we got there it was lovely, the room was just beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. Josh was able to get some sleep and the quality of sleep for both of us was much appreciated.”

The transition to the hotel before going home also meant Josh and Melinda were able to spend some valuable one on one time with Alexander.

“With your first born you have all the time in the world to spend with them, but you don’t have that luxury with the second. It was really lovely to have time with Alexander. We were able to get to know him and his routine without distractions,” Melinda said.

“Each baby is different so we weren’t sure how Alexander was going to respond, but knowing there was a midwife available was really comforting. They understood that even though we weren’t first time parents we would still have questions—they reassured as there was no such thing as a silly question.”

Overall the family found the experience relaxing and supportive and, although a third baby is not in the plans, the couple say they would do it again in a heartbeat.

“It was perfect. If you have the opportunity to stay at the Emporium, I highly recommended it. I feel so privileged we were able to enjoy this special time, and we are so appreciative of the whole experience at Mater Mothers,” Melinda said.
