Baby girls arrive early in time for Valentine’s Day

Celebrating 10 years of marriage today has turned into an extra special celebration for Queensland couple Gagandeep and Amandeep – who welcomed a baby girl just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The couple, from Stretton, said baby Ravneek, who was born at Mater Mothers’ Hospital at South Brisbane with a “full head of hair”, had arrived a week early and weighing 3.3kg.
Gagandeep, 34, said Valentine’s Day would be “an even bigger celebration” for the couple after Ravneek arrived just before 6am on the special day.
“We can’t wait to go home and celebrate as a family. My eldest daughter Ravleen (5), will be so excited,” Gagandeep said.
“We didn’t know we were having another girl, so Ravneek was a surprise. For us, today is one big celebration.”
Mater Mothers' Hospitals provide Australia’s largest maternity service, delivering almost 12,000 babies every year.
Also celebrating the birth of their “much-wanted” baby girl at Mater Mothers’ Hospital was Toowong couple Laura and Jordan.
Laura said her daughter, who has not been named yet, had been due on Sunday.
“We were quite surprised when she arrived on Valentine’s Day,” Laura said.
“I went into labour around midnight last night and she was born at 6.33am, weighing 2.9kg.
“I thought I was going to have a baby in my car. It was quite a ride to hospital, as there were roadworks and part of the highway was closed,” she laughed.
She said despite the mad rush to hospital, having a baby born on Valentine’s Day was special after she experienced a pregnancy loss at almost three months’ gestation last year.
Laura said she felt proud of what she had achieved after giving birth.
“I have given birth to a happy and healthy baby girl this morning. This birth has been redemptive and beautiful, especially since my older son Josiah’s birth involved a 38-hour labour and an emergency caesarean.
“I am so grateful for the care and continuity of care I have received at Mater.”
Laura said Josiah, 3, was set to meet his little sister later this afternoon.
