Parenting Support Centre welcomes 3 000th visitor

Mater mum Laurisse Luke sits quietly to the side of the room as five months old Wilhelmina naps in her arms at their Parenting Support Centre Parent Education Program (PEP) session.

For two hours for four weeks Laurisse has been meeting with other new mums to get out of the house and create a new support network all within a space facilitated by child health nurses, midwives and lactation consultants.

“I’ve really struggled to get out of the house and do things – and for the first few months it always seemed just way too hard,” Laurisse said.

“Now I’ve come to this class and met with other mums and discovered we’re all going through the same things and committing to a class for four weeks has forced me to just get out.

“I’ve really loved the class–the information has been useful but more than anything it’s given me the confidence to go out and do things and not worry so much about sleep and feeding times,” she said.

More than 3 000 mums have been through the doors of the Parenting Support Centre since it opened in 2017.

Mater Mothers’ Parenting Support Centre offers early parenting support and guidance for parents up to six months after the birth of their baby at Mater Mothers.
