Emporium Hotel has the Lee family smiling

Katrina and David are no strangers to Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane. The couple have travelled from Roma to Brisbane to welcome all four of their children—Gemma (9), Abby (6), Tessa (5) and recently a little boy (Darcy).

With three big sisters ready to take care of their new little brother, the Lee family needed a little more room. Thanks to Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane’s newest Caring Continues offering, the girls were able to get to know their brother in a relaxing and luxurious environment, Emporium Hotel South Bank.

Mater Moments at Emporium provides eligible families an opportunity to enjoy all of the creature comforts of a boutique hotel, while having 24/7 access to a Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane midwife.

With three kids, plus three grandparents, all wanting to visit the family’s newest addition, things were a little tight in hospital for the Lee family.

“The room at Emporium was just beautiful, it gave us the space and privacy we needed. The girls were a lot more relaxed when they came to visit—they’re absolutely smitten,” Katrina said.

“In the afternoons we would head up to the rooftop, the girls would have a swim and we were able to enjoy a little fresh air.”

Their Emporium stay also meant dad was a little more comfortable.

“When we were in hospital with the girls, David only spent the first two nights with us. Luckily his mum lives in Brisbane so he was able to join the girls there, and have a proper sleep,” Katrina said.

“Thanks to the king bed at the Emporium, David was able to stay with us the whole time. We were able to get some very rare one on one time with just baby Darcy which was so special.”

The family also took advantage of the beautiful space and unusual occurrence of having everyone together for family photos.

“I wanted to get some family photos done, as it’s rare we have everyone together. We have always had new born photos taken once back in Roma but it was nice to get some photos as a family and especially in such a lovely space like the Emporium,” Katrina said.

Having access to a Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane midwife while at the Emporium was also valuable for Katrina.

“I met with the midwife quite a few times. While I had no issues with breastfeeding the girls, Darcy needed a little more coaching. It was really nice to have a midwife so close and they were so helpful. It was also reassuring knowing Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane was just down the road,” Katrina said.

Katrina is so grateful for having had the opportunity to spend the first few days with Darcy in such a lovely environment.

“The staff at Emporium were so respectful, polite and happy and I would definitely recommend the offer to other private families. It just gives you peace of mind knowing the midwife is available, as well as having meals cooked and delivered—all while feeling relaxed and comfortable,” Katrina said.

“We wish this opportunity had been available for our other three girls!”
