Fatherhood, a life-changing experience

Contributed by Proud Mater Dad Warren

Being a Proud Mater Dad has changed my life. I never thought I could love someone as much as I love my son.

Going to work every day since he has been born has been the hardest experience of my life. I wasn't a big fan of babies and when we found out we were pregnant, I didn't know how I would react or handle a newborn—but after Maveric arrived in June, my whole opinion changed.

Every day my wife sends me videos and pictures while I am at work of our son growing and changing and it makes my day so much more worthwhile. Then I get home and I get to hold him, feed him, cuddle him, bathe him and then we spend time on the couch. He loves sitting with me while I use the iPad— we watch Wiggles videos.

My favourite time of the week is the weekend when I get to spend the entire time with him, my wife and our dog. We try to do as much as we can over the weekend and cherish the time we have to together. I am already planning our first fishing trip; he may be too young at the moment but it's never too soon to buy him his first fishing rod, right? I also can't wait to take him to his first Broncos game and most of all I can't wait until my first Father's Day. A day that never had really any meaning to me until now.

All the nappy changes, the late nights, the vomits and the crying are all worth it because I get to see him smile at me when I come home and know he loves me and everything I can do for him.

Happy Father's Day to all the other Mater dads!
