How to book into Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane
Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane provides a comprehensive preadmission service. This incorporates the sharing of information in relation to your general, medical and obstetric history and is a valuable aspect of preparing for your stay with us.
Booking into hospital
One of the benefits of private maternity care is that you can choose your own private obstetrician to manage your private maternity care.
Simply ask your GP to refer you to one of our accredited private obstetricians. It is helpful for you to know who you would prefer to manage your private maternity care, before seeing your GP to discuss your pregnancy and for a referral.

Private Health Insurance
Prior to booking into hospital, we recommend that you speak to your private health insurance provider so that you are fully aware of your entitlements, including neonatal special or intensive care, and whether you will be required to cover an excess or co-payment.
Understanding other potential out of pocket (Gap) payments
To understand what other out of pocket (gap) expenses may be involved with having your baby, we recommend talking to your doctor, to your health fund, and of course to the hospital.
If you are unsure exactly what to ask, we suggest using this checklist. We’ve listed a series of useful questions to ask those involved in your care during pregnancy and birth, so you have a much clearer idea of what to expect.
Information for self-insured patients
If you are a self-insured patient (paying for your hospitalisation yourself), you will need to contact Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane to discuss costs and obtain a quote*. Our team are available to discuss costs with you over the phone between 8 am and 4 pm weekdays (excluding public holidays). Please call us on 07 3163 8847.
*Cost estimates are based on the information available at the time and are subject to change if any aspect of your stay changes due to medical necessity (e.g. if complications arise).
Buy your Bundle of Joy card
When you choose to have your baby at Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane, you can enjoy access to a range of Mater services at a discounted rate by purchasing the Bundle of Joy card.
The Bundle of Joy provides price certainty and value for money by bundling together Mater services and additional costs associated with giving birth. This helps to alleviate some out-of-pocket costs associated with giving birth that are not necessarily covered by private health insurance or Medicare.
