From preconception to birth and the postnatal period, Mater’s expert Obstetric Medicine  Specialists offer a full spectrum of specialist care including pre-pregnancy planning, management of type 1 and 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, hypertension, and other complex medical conditions during pregnancy.

Our specialists, together with dieticians and diabetes educators, work closely with your obstetrician and provide both outpatient consulting and a 24/7 emergency consulting service to women in Mater Mothers Hospital and Mater Mothers Private Brisbane.

I want to make an appointment. How can I make a booking?

You will require a referral from your obstetrician to be seen by a Mater Obstetric Medicine Specialist, dietician or diabetes educator.  To make an appointment or make a general enquiry, please contact Mater Mothers Specialist Centre. 

How much will it cost?

There are no out-of-pocket costs to be seen by an Obstetric Medicine Specialist, dietician or diabetes educator at the Mater Mothers Specialist Centre.  Our specialist will no-gap any inpatient consultations.  Therefore, as long as you have a Medicare Card and private health insurance that includes maternity, there are no additional costs to access these specialist services at Mater.

What about parking and transport?

The Mater Mothers Specialist Centre is in the Mater South Brisbane Hospital Precinct. It is serviced with public transport and surrounded by numerous car parks.

Getting here by public transport: 

All of Mater’s hospitals are easily accessible by public transport. Mater Hill Brisbane City Council (BCC) Busway station is situated in the middle of the South Brisbane campus. You can access the timetables for BCC buses on the TransLink website.

For patients and visitors who wish to travel by train, the South Bank train station is the closest to Mater hospitals at South Brisbane. It’s a five-minute walk from the station to the Mater campus. You can access the timetables for trains on the TransLink website. 

Getting here by car:

There are three multi-storey car parks on the South Brisbane campus—Hancock Street Car Park, Mater Hill Car Park and Mater Medical Centre Car Park. These car parks are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The best car park for accessing the Mater Mothers Specialist Centre is Mater Hill Car Park (East and West), accessed via Water Street.
