Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families

Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families is Queensland’s first integrated perinatal mental healthcare centre, featuring a dedicated In-patient Mother and Baby Unit.

To open in mid-2023, the new service will meet the urgent needs of thousands of Queensland parents who experience severe depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges in the first year of their baby’s arrival.

Co-designed by parents with lived experience and a multidisciplinary team of perinatal healthcare professionals, Catherine’s House is located at Mater South Brisbane alongside Mater Mothers’ Hospital.

Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families provides a safe space for healing, recovery and connection while receiving specialised treatments, programs and support.

Our services

  • In-patient Mother and Baby Unit where 10 mothers can stay with their babies while receiving treatment and care
  • Parent Support Centre for mothers and babies up to six months after birth
  • Parent Aide Unit delivering a home visiting service to help improve infant-parent relationships
  • Day Programs including a wide range of individual and group therapy treatments for public and private patients
  • Individual Consultation with public and private practitioners

Referrals

Women can be referred to Catherine’s House In-patient Mother and Baby Unit by:

  • Mental health clinicians
  • Medical officers such as General Practitioners, psychiatrists, obstetricians and paediatricians
  • Self-referral processes.
