G20 Leaders’ Summit and access to Mater Mothers’ Hospitals

The G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 15 and 16 November 2014. Friday, 14 November is a public holiday for the Brisbane Local Government area, which includes Mater.

Impacts
Mater Mothers’ Hospitals will be operating as usual over the period of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, however, due to road closures and motorcades your journey to Mater may take longer than normal.

Emergency services will be operational over the long-weekend and people requiring emergency medical attention (including being in labour) should always use emergency services.

Please be sure to check www.translink.com.au and/or https://www.g20.org/community_information/brisbane_locals for up to date information before you travel.

Access to Mater, if you are in labour
If you are in labour, or think you may be, you can:

- Contact the Pregnancy Assessment and Observation (PAOU) on 07 3163 7000 to seek advice from one of our midwives
- if you are travelling  to the hospital by car please allow at least 30 minutes additional travel time.
- If you encounter a road block within the declared zone, advise the nearest police officer ( if in attendance) that you are in labour and they will do their utmost to provide access for you
- call “000” to access emergency services if you are in an emergency situation.

On arriving at Mater Mother’s Hospitals you will need to access the hospital via the main entry on level 5.  At the main doors use the intercom to provide staff with your name and they will direct you to Birth Suites.

Access to Mater, if you are not in labour or are visiting
If you need to attend Mater Mothers’ Hospital, and it is not a medical emergency, allow extra time for your journey.

During the G20 weekend you will need to access Mater Mothers’ Hospitals via the main entrance on level 5.

When you arrive at the main doors, use the intercom to let staff know the reason for your visit or the name of the person you are visiting and a member of staff will then direct you to the appropriate service or area of the hospital.
